The Experience
At Aakriti we believe in providing you a highly personalized living experience during your stay with us. Though you have your own independent accomodation while here at Aakriti, you are most welcome to spend your days with the family.
From activities with nature, locally grown tea and the economy that surrounds it, insights into the locals and their farmers markets, to forest-hill tribes and their wild honey-hunting, to an authentic Indian cuisine experience with us; cooked fresh and home-style everyday, we offer you a unique chance to experience this region and understand the complexities, diversities and contradictions of the people, their cultures and forms of cuisine of our fascinating India.
Nature Walks
Our unique knowledge of these hills has allowed us to put together walks that give you a real feel of our nature as well as some beautifully maintained tea plantations with some dramatic vistas of the surrounding hills and the forested valleys below. We’ve taken pains to stay away from the touristy centers by selecting areas where nature walks truly involve nature and offer a desired degree of peace and serenity; places where your mind and body can focus on pure natural beauty and our rich and exotic bird-life of these hills
Indian Cooking Holiday
At Aakriti we specialize in home-cooked Indian cuisine that covers the diversity from the North to the South of India. What makes this cooking holiday at Aakriti unique is the efforts we put in to make it a comprehensive experience for you. The experience begins with a personal selection of fresh organic vegetable and fruit produce from the local farmers market, selection of specific spices required and then the final hands-on cooking experience under the skill and guidance of your chef and professional nutritionist, Renu.
Hence you not only take back recipes but also knowledge of what it takes to put together a proper and authentic Indian meal; All this woven together with good memories of a home away from home
Local Tribes and People
No region is complete without the lives of its local people intermingled in the fabric of its history. At Aakriti we always strive to portray our love for the local people as much as we have for this region’s natural wealth.
We take you on a personally guided tour through the local farmers markets and a school where you get to interact with the locals and understand their efforts towards ecological awareness through organic and sustainable farming
Our discovery ends with an insight of a 1000-year old tradition of tribal -honey-hunting from the forested hills of the Nilgiris. As these regions are understandably out of bounds, we will explain a very well make documentary that showcases this tradition and the on-going efforts to ensure the future of this traditional tribal way of life
Conservation and Eco-Responsibilities
We call ourselves a Boutique Eco-Homestay because we have been able to blend luxury and comforts with sound, working eco-practices on our property
Our accomodation is fitted with solar water heating as well as an array of panels that draw the heat from the sun inwards during the day, warming your living premises for the night. We consistently record a 5 to 7 degree centigrade variation between the inside and outside temperatures
Our practices extend towards a systematic natural sub-tropical forest-tree plantation drive on our property at Aakriti. Since the inception of this drive to re-create a natural green-space around the property four-years ago, we have successfully planted and raised over 450-numbers of natural forest trees. Every month we strive to add close to 20-trees to this ever-increasing number. Apart from trees, we have consciously increased the number of flowering plants and shrubs around the property that has steadily attracted increasing numbers of birds as well as bees; crucial pollinators of an ecology
